The Orchid



I’m a little nervous and scared.

In that office room next to where,

I lay ready to be opened up,

There are flowers dying.



Their opening and pleasing time is done.

They’re limp and tired,

Soon to be tossed and forgotten



I, like those flowers, am way past bloom.

I hope there is still beauty in my smile.

I seek beauty and calm in your smile.

Show it to me – be my flower in bloom.

I bend over to pick up the dry fallen pedals of

the flowers I vased two weeks past

I should throw them out

but I can’t

there is still too much beauty

in their decay

I work with an intense heat
